Bienes hábices de la iglesia de Nigüelas: Apeo y censos. Arqueología y Territorio 4: 181-202
Description
The historiography of Granada in the XV century is scarce as a number of Arabist studies have revealed, which renders it necessary to have recourse to Castilian sources to understand this period. Therefore, the study of the property and land allocations (bienes hábices) to new settlers becomes an invaluable tool to gain knowledge about the economical, societal and religious structures of the Islamic society in the Kingdom of Granada since the data available about these fields are rather insufficient.
This study aims at providing data for the existing historiographic vacuum about the Muslim period of a town in Granada. Our study presents a cultural background which results from a society considered within its urban and terrain environment, highlighting plots of land, houses, wood burning ovens, water tanks, exploitation of water, shops, religious centres, etc. All these features are integrated into an indissoluble society and timeframe which show contradictions and contrasts inherent to any historical period subject to a study.
