Flucloxacillin (MFI-PC), a new semi-synthetic penicillin, was examined for its absorption anu excretion in man, its antibacterial activity and clinical effects.
1) Following a single oral administration of MFI-PC 250 mg, the serum level in three healthy adults attained the peak of 6. 2 to 7. 6 mcg/ml at one hour after administration, decreasing to trace at four hours.
Following the same dose of MFI-PC as above the urinary recovery rate in the same three adults was 9. 2%, 15. 6% and 11. 8%, rspectively, for the first six hours, which suggets that excretion of MFI-PC into urine would be very slow.
2) Sensitivity of the clinically is olated pathogenic strains of Staphylococci to MFI-PC was all but one, below 1. 56 mcg/ml, showing the peak at a concentration of 0. 2 mcg/ml.
3) MFI-PC was giyen to 18 patients with surgical infections, with the effectiveness rate of 77. 8%.
4) No unfavorable effects were found on hepatic function nor on hematological findings.
