Abstract
The knowledge of historical solar activity is of great interest. The present work analyses descriptions of the solar corona observed during the eclipse of 24 June 1778. The corona was described as showing streamers at all solar latitudes. The descriptions are indicative of a high level of solar activity, in concordance with historical sunspot number data.
