Benjamin List was born in Germany in 1968. He studied chemistry at the Free University of Berlin where he obtained a Diploma (summa cum laude) in 1993. He received his PhD in 1997 from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt working in the field of natural product synthesis under the supervision of Professor J. Mulzer. He spent nearly two years as a postdoctoral research associate in the laboratories of Professor R. A. Lerner at the Scripps Research Institute studying catalytic antibodies. In January 1999, he became an Assistant Professor at Scripps. His research interests include catalysis, new reaction methodologies, and bioorganic chemistry.
