Role of DEK in carcinogenesis, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic outcome of breast cancer: An evidence-based clinical review
2023, Critical Reviews in Oncology/HematologyCitation Excerpt :They found that DEK expression was significantly higher in invasive breast carcinoma cell lines and tissues than in normal breast tissue and cell lines. In vitro, investigators proved that retroviral transduction of DEK in cell lines increased the rate of proliferation, as evidenced by increased levels of cyclin A. On the other hand, DEK knockdown, apart from having an impact on slowing proliferation, was also found to be associated with accelerated apoptosis, which was thought to be partially associated with the repression of Bcl-xL, an anti-apoptotic mitochondrial transmembrane protein known to prevent the release of mitochondrial contents that can trigger programmed cell death (Privette Vinnedge et al., 2011; Korsmeyer, 1995). Other studies have highlighted that DEK played two roles in preventing apoptosis by destabilising p53, which prevents the activation of Bax pro-apoptotic factors and stimulating MCL-1, a transcriptional anti-apoptotic protein (Sandén and Gullberg, 2015; Lin et al., 2014).
Suppression of colorectal carcinogenesis by naringin
2022, PhytomedicineChinese Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi) inhibits inflammation and proliferation on benign prostatic hyperplasia in rats
2019, Journal of EthnopharmacologyCitation Excerpt :The Bax/Bcl-2 ratio is proportional to the susceptibility of cells to apoptosis (Thompson, 1995) and occurrence of BPH may be involved in alterations in the Bax-to-Bcl-2 balance (Vela-Navarrete et al., 2005). Bcl-xL, encoded by the Bcl 2-like 1 gene, functions as an anti-apoptotic protein by preventing the release of cytochrome c, which brings out initiation of caspase activation and ultimately, apoptotic events (Korsmeyer, 1995). The results in Fig. 6A demonstrated prostatic cells in rats with BPH underwent apoptosis after administration of SRE.
