The dependence of the critical velocity of the superfluid on channel diameter and film thickness

Abstract

The superfluid critical velocity in liquid helium varies with the fourth root of the diameter, ranging from a few Å up to a few cm. The quasi “critical” velocities often found are due to the onset of classical turbulence.
