Abstract

The Lawson criterion describing influences of the fusion power plant technology is referred to as the engineering breakeven. The engineering breakeven criterion specifies the minimal fusion power plant design parameters required for production of useful energy. The present paper defines the engineering breakeven criterion and brings two different formulations of the criterion. Using the derived engineering breakeven criterion, ten European DEMO fusion power plant models are evaluated. The analysis shows parameters of the current models as suitable in terms of the engineering breakeven criterion.
