Abstract.

Various cell coverings in structure and composition occur in algae. They include intracellular cell coverings, scaly cell coverings, and cell walls. Chemical components of cell coverings vary depending on phylogenetic groups and generations. In this paper, the evolution of cell coverings is discussed.
