Additional information
I thank Christina Schlusemeyer for her extensive help in providing material and information about her father’s life and work. I thank Sarah Boysen, Darryl Bruce, Douglas Candland, Joseph Perczel, Eva Bakay Pragay, Viktor Sarris, and William Timberlake for their comments on earlier drafts of the present article. I have quoted from some of Schiller’s articles published in English in foreign journals and some unpublished materials. In some cases there are minor errors of grammar or usage or the text uses awkward or non-idiomatic English. I have made minor corrections within some quotations from unpublished materials in order to improve the clarity and flow of the text. This is because they never received the final polishing of published materials.
