Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk gaat over de verschillende methodes van anticonceptie. Inzicht in wensen en verwachtingen van de patiënt wordt als belangrijk benadrukt om de betrouwbaarheid en therapietrouw te bevorderen. Shared decision making in de keuze van een middel is onmisbaar. De hormonale combinatiepreparaten en verschillende mogelijke hormoonsamenstellingen worden besproken. Er wordt ingegaan op de long acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) en de voordelen die deze kunnen bieden, vooral aan kwetsbare vrouwen met een verhoogd risico op ongewenste zwangerschap. Ook voor- en nadelen en de mogelijk ernstiger bijwerkingen van de combinatiepreparaten en LARC’s komen aan bod, naast de noodzaak van zorgvuldige counseling om voortijdig staken van met name de LARC’s te voorkomen.
