Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify how the knowledge of Advance Medical Directives (AMD) and awareness of good death on attitude towards AMD. Research subjects were university students majoring in healthcare information management who would be collecting, maintaining, and managing healthcare information in medical institutions upon graduation.

Background: Life-sustaining treatment that is meaningless and has no patient"s intention infringes the decision-making rights on good death and increases economic burdens due to excessive medical costs at the same time. And Social interest towards meaningless life-sustaining treatment has been increasing since the implementation of Life-Sustaining Treatment Decision-Making Act in 2018. Healthcare workers should be able to help patients and their families make the best choice on life-sustaining treatment. This emphasizes the importance proper knowledge and positive attitude for AMD by healthcare workers.

Method: This research collected data using a structured survey questionnaire to 300 students of the healthcare information management major at 3 universities located in B. The study used a total of 283 surveys were used for final analysis, and conducted a t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS statistical program.

Results: The better a self-rated health status was, the awareness of good death increased (F =2.624, p =0.035), and people cognizant of the Life-Sustaining Treatment Decision-Making Act had higher knowledge of AMD than people who were not cognizant (t =-4.860, p <0.000). Also, people practicing health promotion had more positive attitude towards AMD than people who did not (t =-2.007, p =0.046). This study demonstrated that the awareness of good death (β=0.283, p <0.001) and knowledge of AMD (β=0.254, p <0.001) positively (+) affected the attitude towards AMD.

Conclusion: To improve the positive attitude towards AMD, biomedical ethics education must be included in the curriculum to establish respect and values towards the dignity of good death and provide appropriate knowledge of AMD.

Application: This study can be used as a basic material to increase the knowledge of healthcare information management major students in AMD and improve their positive attitude towards AMD.
