ABSTRACT

This premier volume of Sexuality & Culture is dedicated to the theme of Sexual Harassment and Sexual Consent, particularly in academia. The phrasing of the theme emphasizes the point that the issue of sexual harassment is closely linked to the issue of sexual consent. While such a position contradicts the very essence of the definition of an adult, it reveals the current lack of a consensus about what sexual consent is and emphasizes the need for an open discussion of the topic. It would be naïve to think that discussions among faculty members and administrators would suffice to understand the complexities of the phenomenon of sexual consent. Important as it is to investigate the theme of sexual harassment and sexual consent, it is necessary to realize that there is much more than concern about sexual harassment in the recent efforts to ban amorous relationships between students and professors.
