Adorno and Derrida on Husserl

Abstract

Recently there have been cautious attempts at rapprochement between French poststructuralism and German critical hermeneutics. Thus Manfred Frank, who defends a hermeneutical approach, has entered into a dialogue with some of the French poststructuralists, and in 1983 Habermas and Foucauk engaged in an exchange shortly before the latter's death. This dialogue has been joined not only by individual French poststructuralists and German critical theorists. Independent scholars are also beginning to seek closer ties between French and German theory. This is true of many Americans who, having become interested in French poststructuralism in the 1970s, are now growing dissatisfied with it and moving increasingly closer to hermeneutics and Critical Theory.
