    Nosocomial EKC often occurs, resulting in severe outbreaks in ophthalmology outpatients and inpatients, pediatric units and even neonatal care units. The outbreak may necessitate the restriction of clinical practices, such as the postponement of eye surgery, early release of inpatients from the hospital and even closure of wards [21–26,48–58]. Studies worldwide show that HAdV-8 is the most important agent of EKC and accounts for up to 80% of the cases [36,50–52,56,57].
