ABSTRACT

A variety of systemic immune diseases affect the eye in different ways. Anterior uveitis is the most common ocular inflammatory disorder and it may be idiopathic or associated with a systemic disease (Table 1). Ocular inflammation can also be pathognomonic for the systemic immune condition, for example scleromalacia perforans and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It may be the presenting complaint in a previously undiagnosed disorder such as necrotizing scleritis in Wegener granulomatosis.
