초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of mothers' the level of understanding of Buddhism and the level of clinging related to their preschoolers' emotional intelligence. The subjects for this study were 225 mothers whose children were enrolled in 5 kindergartens in Gyoungsang and Chungcheong provinces. The results were as follows: There was a significant difference in mothers' level of understanding of Buddhism according to their stated status as practicing Buddhists or not. There were also significant differences among their preschoolers' in various sub-scales of emotional intelligence according to the mothers' level of understanding of Buddhism. Further, there was a significant difference in the preschoolers' perception and expression of their emotional states which was a sub-scale of emotional intelligence according to their mothers' level of clinging. The preschoolers' emotional intelligence was significantly influenced primarily by the mothers' cultural understanding of Buddhism and secondarily by the mothers' deficiency of presence, which was a subscale of clinging.
