Abstract:
To help prevent static segregation in self-consolidating concrete (SCC), which occurs when aggregate sinks in concrete at rest, a numerical model based on rheology and fluid dynamics was developed to calculate the settling speed of the interface between paste and aggregate. The model was found to describe static segregation with reasonable accuracy. The properties seen to affect static segregation included paste rheology (viscosity and yield stress) and aggregate size, maximum volume fraction, volume fraction, and density.
