Synthesis and characterization of some novel substituted pyridones and iminopyridines derived from pyrene moiety

Abstract

Two series with the general formula of 4,6-diaryl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitriles and their isosteric 4,6-diaryl-2-imino-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitrile were synthesized by one pot reaction of the pyrene-1-carbaldehyde, appropriate acetyl aromatic derivatives, ammonium acetate with ethyl cyanoacetate or malononitrile, respectively. Structure of the newly synthesized products was confirmed by chemical and spectroscopic methods.
