Knowledge management in careers services: implications for Connexions managers
Abstract
This paper reviews the literature on knowledge management in the context of a major organisational change. The organisations studied provide statutory public services and are responsible for providing advice and guidance to young people. A postal survey of 123 managers in careers service organisations showed that, while technical infrastructures for knowledge management are present, managers do not fully recognise the capabilities of the infrastructures that they have. Knowledge management infrastructures are examined in the context of prevailing organisational cultures. Implications for top managers in careers services organisations and Connexions partnerships are offered.
