1-(Phenylseleno)-2-(p-toluenesulfonyl)ethyne (1) undergoes Diels-Alder reactions with various 1,3-dienes to afford 1-(phenylseleno)-2-(p-toluenesulfonyl)-1,4-cyclohexadienes. Dienophile 1 can be used as a ketene equivalent.
