Case report
Between October 2000 and March 2001, 34 knotless anchors have been inserted in 12 patients to treat anterior shoulder instability. The average age of patients at surgery was 25.2 years (range, 18 to 34 years). All patients had chronic traumatic anterior instability and were examined preoperatively under anaesthesia. Only patients with a Bankart lesion and without significant capsular damage were stabilized arthroscopically. Patients who failed to meet these criteria were treated with open
Discussion
Surgical reattachment of the detached anterior shoulder labrum restores the distorted biomechanical efficiency of the shoulder.7 In the early 1990s, the most common complication of suture anchor use noted was higher recurrence rates than are found with transosseous stabilization.8, 9 When the indications are followed appropriately, arthroscopic Bankart repair using suture anchors has a high success rate, comparable to the rate with open procedures. However, complications can arise from the use

Recurrent Instability After Arthroscopic Bankart Reconstruction: A Systematic Review of Surgical Technical Factors
2017, Arthroscopy - Journal of Arthroscopic and Related SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Knotless anchors may potentially decrease surgical time and mitigate the technical challenges of knot tying. Knotless suture anchors may not provide equivalent fixation, however, as there have been reports of late disengagement, displacement of soft tissues with cyclic loading, and higher rates of failure than knotted anchors.27,57,58 Our systematic review found pooled mean recurrent instability rates of 8.0% in the knotless anchor group and of 9.4% in the standard anchor group.
Arthroscopic bankart repair using knot-tying versus knotless suture anchors: Is there a difference?
2014, Arthroscopy - Journal of Arthroscopic and Related SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Despite these advantages, reports on the weaknesses of knotless anchors have emerged. Antonogiannakis et al.11 reported late disengagement of a knotless anchor. Zumstein et al.12 performed an in vitro comparison study of knot-tying and knotless metal suture anchors that showed knotless suture anchors may cause a significantly greater gap formation between bone and soft tissue than is produced by knot-tying metal anchors.
The Incidence of Early Metallic Suture Anchor Pullout After Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair
2010, Arthroscopy - Journal of Arthroscopic and Related SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs are becoming the mainstay, and devices such as suture anchors are greatly facilitating these procedures. Suture anchors used during shoulder surgery have been associated with complications,1,20-22 such as pullout,8,11 arthritis,11,23-25 and osteolysis.23,25 Most of these studies, however, pertain to the use of suture anchors in the glenoid.
