1-Hydroxyindoles, and products from the reaction of 2-nitrophenylsuccinic anhydride with fluorosulphonic acid

Abstract

A previous synthesis of 1-hydroxy-2-methylindole has been confirmed but the n.m.r. spectrum proved to be highly sensitive to the presence of moisture in the samples and required reinterpretation. The products from the reaction of 2-nitrophenylsuccinic anhydride and fluorosulphonic acid are not hydroxyindoles but 1,4-dihydroxy-2-quinolone and 2,1-benzisoxazol-3-ylacetic acid.
