Atomistic mechanisms of ionic transport in fast-ion conductors

Abstract

We review the types of atomic migration mechanism operative in ionic solids with exceptionally high ionic mobilities. We classify mechanisms as simple-hopping, highly correlated or liquid-like. We discuss current knowledge of transport mechanisms in fluorite structured ionic conductors, β-Al2O3, Agl and proton conductors.
