14  Manganese, technetium and rhenium

Abstract

Research into the Group 7 elements continues to be centred on manganese, with massive expansion in the area of cluster complexes having potential as single molecule magnets (SMM's). Magnetochemical and synthetic studies predominate, but special notice should be taken of work on the incorporation of a chiral carboxylate, thereby introducing new techniques into this exciting topic. Work on organometallic chemistry has not been described in such detail in this chapter, but there is a description of elegant synthetic work that reveals unusual behaviour of bridging disulfides.
