Enzymatic Formation of Glycerophosphorylcholine

Abstract

THE isolation of glycerophosphorylcholine from incubated beef pancreas by Schmidt, Hershman and Thannhauser1, and the availability of a method for the determination of this substance in tissue extracts2 made it promising to attempt the isolation from pancreas of the phospholipases concerned. It was found that the phospholipases which split lecithin into glycerophosphorylcholine could be separated from their substrates and from enzymes causing further degradation of glycerophosphorylcholine by the following procedure.
