Abstract

Hydrogen peroxide acts as a signaling molecule via its reactions with thiol-containing residues of certain proteins within the cell. Knowledge of relevant concentration ranges found within the cell can be informative with respect to likely and unlikely reaction mechanisms. In this chapter, several methods of determining intracellular H2O2 concentrations are presented, and findings in a variety of mammalian systems are discussed.
