Effect of angiotensin II pathway inhibitors on post-surgical adhesion band formation: a potential repurposing of old drugs
2022, InjuryCitation Excerpt :Although different anti-adhesion strategies including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and adhesion barriers are used to reduce the risk of adhesion formation during the tendon healing process, the prevention of surgical adhesions is still a main challenge for orthopedic surgeons [5–7]. In tendon healing procedures, large amounts of immune/inflammatory cells and fibroblasts are recruited to the site of injury [8]. Fibroblasts have a significant role in tendon repair via secretion of various collagen types, restoring the continuity of collagen fibers in the tendon structure.

2010, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow SurgeryCitation Excerpt :However, the real efficiency of sutures performed using this fixing method is still questioned, in comparison with the traditional techniques.1,3,16 For a long time, the idea that tendon reinsertion should be made as resistant as possible by multiple sutures has been advocated, with the tendon fixed using trans-osseous stitches in a spongy bone bed4,6,21; however, multiple stitches may reduce the microcirculation of the tendon and impair healing.8 Some authors have attempted to demonstrate which type of repair is better (ie, in the spongy bone bed [for trans-osseous suture] or in the cortical bone bed [for suture using anchors]), by investigating whether these types of repair have different biomechanical properties over the course of the phases of healing.
