Among them, apoptosis has been identified as a major contributing event [16,17]; furthermore, the intensity of apoptosis has been shown to be closely correlated with the degree of reperfusion injury in the liver [18,19]. Several apoptosis-related molecules have been shown to partake in the complex cascade of events in which the final outcome reflects the predominant manifestation of pro- and anti-apoptotic factors such as caspases and Bcl-2, respectively [20–22].
