Abstract

Removal of a dye from textile effluents by adsorption. The thermodynamics and the kinetics of adsorption on clay material of methylene blue in aqueous solution were investigated. A high adsorptive capacity was observed: about 300 mg/g dry clay. A series of contact-time experiments were undertaken in stirred batch adsorber to assess the effect of the system variables such as (i) the mass of clay, (ii) the temperature, (iii) the initial concentration of dye, (iv) the pH of the solution and (v) the degree of stirring. The results for these contact-time experiments were discussed and showed that the natural clay can be used as adsorbent in wastewater treatment.

Résumé

Dans ce travail, nous avons procédé à la détermination expérimentale des isothermes et de la cinétique d'adsorption d'un colorant en solution, le bleu de méthylène, sur un matériau argileux. Une grande capacité d'adsorption est observée: de l'ordre de 300 mg/g d'argile sèche. Une série d'expérience a été réalisée afin d'étudier l'influence, sur la cinétique d'adsorption, de certains paramètres tels que: (i) la masse d'argile, (ii) la température, (iii) la concentration initiale en colorant, (iv) le pH de la solution et (v) la vitesse d'agitation. A la suite des discussions et des interprétations des résultats expérimentaux nous suggérons l'utilisation de ce matériau argileux provenant d'une région du sud Tunisien comme adsorbant industriel dans le domaine du traitement des eaux.
