While a wide variety of high surface density carbon materials have been employed in heterogeneous electrocatalysis (such as carbon paper, carbon nanotubes, and graphite rods), the uniquely porous three-dimensional structure of carbon felt electrodes (CFEs) allows for much larger quantities of enzyme-containing polymer film to be coated onto an electrode per geometric surface area [30–34]. The effects of FcCl-C3-LPEI/laccase film loading on jmax under a flow of compressed air is shown in Fig. 6.
