  • Re-evaluating the role of palliative radiotherapy in malignant pleural mesothelioma

    2011, European Journal of Cancer
    Citation Excerpt :

Previous studies have suggested that symptomatic relief following radiation is better with such hypofractionated treatment.12–14 In addition, van der Zee et al. reported a 54% clinical response rate in a series of patients with intervention site recurrences who were treated with 40 Gy in 10 fractions.28 In contrast, the earlier negative studies reported by Linden et al.26 and Holsti et al.27 both employed conventional 2 Gy fraction sizes.

  • The Role of Radiotherapy in the Treatment of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma

    2007, Clinical Oncology
    Citation Excerpt :

This group also investigated the use of combined radiotherapy and hyperthermia and in a matched group of patients found a higher response rate with the addition of hyperthermia to radiotherapy [13]. Van der Zee et al. [14] also investigated the use of hyperthermia, in addition to radiotherapy, in a group of 18 patients. Painful chest wall tumours were treated with a 4 Gy per fraction scheme, three fractions per week to a total median dose of 40 Gy.
