2020, Science of the Total EnvironmentCitation Excerpt :Lithophaga lithophaga has been observed to bioaccumulate different heavy metals, with the concentration pattern Zn > Cu > Pb > Cd (Deudero et al., 2007b; Ozsuer and Sunlu, 2013; Kefi et al., 2016). Deudero et al. (2007b) reported a higher Pb and Cd concentration in L. lithophaga, in comparison to those detected in M. galloprovincialis collected at the same sites (Menorca and Mallorca) and period (April–June). A study on the trace metals accumulated in L. lithophaga from Izmir Bay (Aegean Sea) in 2001 and 2011, reported, on average, 7.64 μg Pb g−1 dry weight of L. lithophaga with values exceeding the limit published in the Turkish Food Codex (2008), and Cd concentrations exceeding the limits of the World Health Organization (1973) (Ozsuer and Sunlu, 2013).
Seasonal variations of multi-biomarker responses to metals and pesticides pollution in M. galloprovincialis and T. decussatus from Homa Lagoon, Eastern Aegean Sea
2019, Marine Pollution BulletinCitation Excerpt :Variations of environmental parameters such as temperature and salinity affect physiology and metal bioaccumulation in organisms that are widely distributed in lagoons, estuarine or inshore marine waters (McLusky et al., 1986; Dame, 1996). Metal concentrations in bivalves were compared with other coastal areas and lagoons of Mediterranean Sea (Table 2) which are influenced by anthropogenic activities, harbor facilities, influx of sewage, and industrial effluents (Catsiki and Florou, 2006; Nesto et al., 2004; Deudero et al., 2007; Fattorini et al., 2008; Maanan, 2008; Joksimović et al., 2011, 2018; El Nemr et al., 2012; Galgani et al., 2014; Rouane-Hacene et al., 2015; Milun et al., 2016). Generally, Hg, Cd, Pb, Cu, Mn, and Zn concentrations in bivalves from Homa Lagoon were lower than that of other areas, but only Cr levels were higher than other sites.
