  • Compartmental Subdivisions of the Jugular Foramen: A Review of the Current Models

    2020, World Neurosurgery
    Citation Excerpt :

Subsequent studies have often applied the Latin names pars nervosa (“nervous part”) for the anteromedial compartment and pars venosa or pars vascularis (“venous” or “vascular part”) for the posterolateral compartment when referring to Hovelacque's model. Notwithstanding, this anatomical nomenclature is doubly inaccurate and misleading because both of the compartments contain nervous and vascular structures.16 In addition, Hovelacque9 never used these terms in his original compartmentation; they were coined later, although exactly when they came into use has remained unclear.14
