Circadian molecular clockworks in non-model insects
2015, Current Opinion in Insect ScienceCitation Excerpt :At the beginning, antibodies against Drosophila PER protein were used in beetles, moths, and crickets [2–4]. Then reverse genetic approach promoted finding of the homologs of Drosophila clock genes by molecular cloning (c.f. [5–9]). More recently, microarray, transcriptome analyses, and genome search are used to find clock and clock related genes in various insect species [10,11,12•].
Influence of melatonin receptor 1A gene polymorphisms on seasonal reproduction in Sarda ewes with different body condition scores and ages
2014, Animal Reproduction ScienceCitation Excerpt :Approximately 100–150 ng of genomic DNA was subjected to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using specific primers synthesised by Sigma Genosys Ltd. (Pampisford, Cambs, UK). The primers were those used by Messer et al. (1997) and corresponded to positions 285–304 (sense primer 5′-TGT GTT TGT GGT GAG CCT GG-3′) and 1108–1089 (antisense primer: 5′-ATG GAG AGG GTT TGC GTT TA-3′) of the sequence reported by Reppert et al. (1994). These primers allowed for the amplification of the main part of exon II of the ovine MTNR1A gene (GenBank U14109).
Insect photoperiodic calendar and circadian clock: Independence, cooperation, or unity?
2011, Journal of Insect PhysiologyCitation Excerpt :This region of the brain was later found to contain four pairs of neurosecretory cells that probably function as the moth's circadian clock. The clock cells express oscillating levels of PER (Reppert et al., 1994; Sauman and Reppert, 1996a); their bodies lie in close proximity to PTTH-expressing cells and the PER protein is axonally transported to the corpora allata from which PTTH is released. This anatomical structure suggests that PER-expressing neurons influence the release of PTTH and, subsequently, the timing of developmental events in A. pernyi (Sauman and Reppert, 1996b).
