2016, International Journal of PharmaceuticsCitation Excerpt :Tretinoin (all-trans-retinoic acid) (RA), used in the treatment of psoriasis and acne, has local irritating effect. Amdidouche et al. (1994) prepared and compared the properties of hydroxypropylcellulose alcoholic gels containing 0.05% RA included or not in β-CD. The in vitro release evaluation, carried out using Franz diffusion cells equipped with Silastic® (polydimethylsiloxane) membrane and isotonic phosphate buffer saline pH 7.3–7.4, revealed a faster diffusion of free RA than from its inclusion.

The potential of CDs to facilitate drug administration through almost any route, and even to move the drugs from Classes II and IV to the ideal Class I in the Biopharmaceutical Classification System [16], has prompted the synthesis of CD derivatives searching for increased solubility, improved ability to form inclusion complexes, and enhanced biocompatibility, at affordable costs [13,17,18].
