Functionally engineered ‘hepato-liposomes’: Combating liver-stage malaria in a single prophylactic dose
2020, International Journal of PharmaceuticsCitation Excerpt :The liposomes are seen as light spherical structures against a dark background created by the heavy metal stain. The dark and light shades are evident due to the remnants of the contrast agent employed for negative staining (Fresta et al., 1993). The images clearly indicate that DQN incorporation did not influence the spherical morphology of SAG modified vesicles and their size was in concordance with the DLS data shown in table 2.

2015, Journal of Food EngineeringCitation Excerpt :The aqueous medium surrounding the liposomes is replaced with an appropriate buffer in the later stage of the process. Thus, the EE of water soluble compounds into liposomes is reported to be less than 10%, regardless of the liposome type (Fresta et al., 1993; Elorza et al., 1993; Sasaki et al., 1987) or membrane properties (El Maghraby et al., 2001). However, it was proved, that the EE can be significantly increased by employing proper production technique (Tomoko and Fumiyoshi, 2005).
Development of a liposomal nanoparticle formulation of 5-Fluorouracil for parenteral administration: Formulation design, pharmacokinetics and efficacy
2011, Journal of Controlled ReleaseCitation Excerpt :Several approaches have been developed to address the issues of extended 5-FU exposure time, catabolism by dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) and 5-FU toxicity. These include the use of prodrugs, biomodulation and drug delivery methods such as liposomes/polymer-nanoparticles [2–11]. The most successful approach to date has been the development of a pro-drug where the parent drug (capecitabine) is enzymatically converted to the active metabolite in the target tissues.

2007, Journal of Dermatological ScienceCitation Excerpt :This may have contributed to the highly negative charge of PE liposomes (−54.9 mV). The profiles of the zeta potential may explain the smaller size of PE liposomes compared to EPC liposomes, since the negatively charged phospholipids tend to increase the interbilayer distance owing to electrostatic repulsive forces, which avoid aggregation among vesicles [25]. The addition of PEP to the bilayers led to initial decreases in the zeta potential.
