2022, Engineering StructuresCitation Excerpt :However, once they are lined with sheathing boards, often on both sides, these light steel frames receive good lateral restraints from the sheathing boards, resulting in substantial increase to the load-bearing capacity of LSF walls [1–3]. Although many studies [9–18] have been conducted on the behaviour of unsheathed CFS columns subject to distortional buckling, there is limited research on the behaviour of sheathed CFS studs failing in distortional buckling. Therefore, understanding the behaviour of LSF walls and developing simplified design methods to calculate the distortional buckling capacity are required.
Reliability calibrations for the design of cold-formed steel portal frames by advanced analysis
2019, Engineering StructuresSimplified semi-analytical model for elastic distortional buckling prediction of cold-formed steel flexural members
2016, Thin-Walled StructuresCitation Excerpt :An effective width formula for distortional buckling was also proposed in [6], which shows better agreement with current direct strength method (DSM) predictions than the existing effective width method. As far as the efforts to use numerical methods are concerned, Lau and Hancock [7] analysed the inelastic distortional buckling strength of thin walled columns using spline finite strip method. A nonlinear finite element model calibrated using experiments has been simulated by Yu and Schafer [8] for application in direct strength method.
