Photoantimicrobials in agriculture
2022, Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: BiologyCitation Excerpt :Nonetheless, these results show that host damage can occur, depending on plant species, so that the safety of phototreatment must be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Polyacetylenes (polyenes) are a highly effective class of photosensitizers that occur in flowers, leaves, stems, and roots of species in the plant families Apiaceae, Asteraceae, and Campanulaceae [26,52,146,189]. Several plant species are known to produce and accumulate acetylenes, polyacetylenes, and thiophenes in response to infection by microbial pathogens [13,34,162].
