Response of soil carbon dioxide emissions to no-tillage and moldboard plow systems on Andosols in a humid, subtropical climate, Japan
2021, GeodermaCitation Excerpt :Lenka et al. (2012) indicated that higher SOC content may result in better water retention. In another study, SOC was positively correlated with retained water content and accounted for almost 70% of the variation in a linear relationship with retained water capacities and 73.5% when the relationship was curvilinear (Hollis et al., 1977). In the present study, higher surface SOC stocks might explain why NT systems produced higher CO2 daily and annual emissions than MP systems in which NT and MP had been differentiated for 15 years.

2020, Resources, Conservation and RecyclingCitation Excerpt :As described previously, this study aimed to investigate the effect of FA amendment on soil/sand EMC as well as WHC. In soil system, soil water content would be influenced by several soil characteristics such as soil texture and structure, porosity, particle size, and soil organic matter content (Hollis et al., 1977; Gupta and Larson, 1979; Jong et al., 1983). The increase of silt-size fraction by FA amendment was expected to affect not only WHC but also EMC.
Investigating the correlation between soil tensile strength curve and soil water retention curve via modeling
2017, Soil and Tillage ResearchCitation Excerpt :Organic carbon is one of the important bonding agents in soil structure formation (Oades, 1984). OC was the most influential variable in the research by Hollis et al. (1977) to estimate water content at 5 kPa matric suction. Jong (1983) found that the high amount of organic matter content resulted in higher water content at all matric suctions.
