Abstract

A patient is described in whom photic stimulation provoked spike and wave discharges, usually with myoclonus. Continued photic stimulation on two occasions resulted in cardiac arrest accompanied by ana anoxic seizure, followed once by an epileptic attack. The cardiac arrest reaction was treated by Bellergal and the epileptic phenomena by phenobarbital. It is concluded that this patient was suffering from two affections, namely epileptic seizures and increased vagal excitability. Both affections could be provoked by photic stimulation.
