2018, Physiology and BehaviorCitation Excerpt :In fact, it has been demonstrated that a neural reorganization of the lesioned area occurs after an IBO lesion [32,33], and this reorganization could have contributed to the smaller reduction of TI duration that was observed in our study relative to previously published results. Furthermore, ibotenic acid lesions can trigger a vigorous sprouting of 5-HT fibers; this effect is evident only 3 days after these lesions [34,35] have been produced in the striatum and hippocampus. Therefore, one possible hypothesis is that this reorganization of 5-HT fibers could have occurred in other areas, such as the regions that have been investigated in the present study.
