2018, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - Molecular Cell ResearchThe mechanisms by which pardaxin, a natural cationic antimicrobial peptide, targets the endoplasmic reticulum and induces c-FOS
2014, BiomaterialsCitation Excerpt :These results, together with the observation that pardaxin is directly targeted to the ER (Fig. 5A–C), confirm that pardaxin induces Ca2+-mediated cellular stress. It is well understood that disruption of Ca2+ sequestration in the ER is sufficient to trigger apoptosis [45]. Depletion of the ER Ca2+ pool results in ER stress and affects protein folding.
The many faces of calmodulin in cell proliferation, programmed cell death, autophagy, and cancer
2014, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - Molecular Cell ResearchCitation Excerpt :Early work indicated an active role of Ca2 + and CaM in glucocorticoid-induced apoptosis in immature T-cells. Buffering sustained elevation of Ca2 + concentration induced by glucocorticoid with Quin-2 or treatment of cells with the CaM inhibitor calmidazolium prevented DNA fragmentation and apoptotic death [429]. Furthermore, Dowd et al. [430] found an up to 10-fold increase of CaM mRNA level in WEHI7.2 lymphocytes after glucocorticoid treatment indicating steroid hormone-regulated expression of CaM.
