Abstract
The progress in molecular biology has led to the discovery of relevant genetic alterations in hereditary and sporadic breast cancer. While mutations in the cancer-predisposing genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 were responsible for hereditary, family clustered breast cancer, HER2/neu and estradiol receptor status as genetically determined risk factors achieved relevance in diagnosis, prevention and therapy of sporadic breast cancer.
