Abstract

Background

The aim of this manuscript is to describe the various possible clinical presentations of pheochromocytomas.

Methods

Retrospective review of unusual and sometimes fascinating case reports in both authors' experience.

Results

Catecholamine receptors are so ubiquitous, and the blend of catecholamines secreted by the pheochromocytomas so variable, that an astonishing array of clinical signs and symptoms should raise the suspicion and lead to the diagnosis of pheochromocytomas.

Conclusions

The clinician should be aware of the overwhelming diversity of clinical presentations of pheochromocytomas.

Ziel vorliegender Zusammenstellung ist die Beschreibung verschiedenster klinischer Präsentationen des Phäochromozytoms.

Methodik

Retrospektiv werden ungewöhnliche und faszinierende Kasuistiken beschrieben.

Ergebnisse

Katecholaminrezeptoren kommen überall vor. Die Art der von Phäochromozytomen sezernierten Katecholamine ist so unterschiedlich, daß daraus eine erstaunliche Reihe klinischer Zeichen und Symptome den Verdacht auf ein Phäochromozytom erwecken und zur Diagnose führen sollten.

Schlußfolgerungen

Dem Kliniker sollten die mannigfaltigen klinischen Bilder des Phäochromozytoms bewußt sein.
