Abstract

This paper describes a possible method of compiling a rotifer species list for any site from a single visit. Sediment samples collected from Loch Leven on one occasion in winter were exposed to light and a range of temperature conditions in the laboratory. Resting eggs in the sediment were induced to hatch. The resultant species list was very similar to that obtained from regular plankton collections over the previous six year period.
