Abstract

Emulsions with gel properties which form at the water-rich region of ternary water/nonionic surfactant/hydrocarbon systems have been studied. The investigations of gel emulsions with a constant water content of 99 % by weight showed that they are high-internal-phase-volume W/O emulsions (the water being the disperse phase), and that their formation is closely related to the HLB temperature of the corresponding system. The stability of these gel emulsions is highly dependent on temperature, hydrocarbon/surfactant ratio and the presence of additives.
