Abstract
Water can be bound in different ways in minerals. The most frequent types of occurrence of water in minerals have been tabulated to summarize the most important features. This clearly reveals that the different water types form a continuous sequence.
Water escaping in the course of dehydration processes can be bound in minerals in two fundamentally different mechanisms, e.g. by adsorption forces on the different surfaces of the structure or by coordination forces around certain cations of the structure.
