Psychiatric Quarterly Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Sodium diphenyl hydantoinate is an effective anticonvulsant.

  2. 2.

In a series of institutionalized chronic epileptics who had been receiving other anticonvulsant previously, it produced significant improvement in 50 per cent, some improvement in 26.3 per cent, and no improvement in 23.7 per cent.

  3. 3.

Toxic reactions of various types are caused by dilantin. None of these seem to be serious in nature, and all can be controlled by decrease or withdrawal of the drug. However, careful observation of the patient during treatment is advisable.

  4. 4.

A combination of phenobarbital and dilantin is advisable in some cases.
