On the nature of β-galactosidase synthesized by the DNA-directed cell-free system

Summary

The β-galactosidase product of the DNA-directed cell-free system for the synthesis of protein of the lac operon, developed by Zubay and his colleagues, has been purified to radioactive homogeneity and compared to wild-type β-galactosidase. When analyzed by sucrose gradient centrifugation, SDS-gel electrophoresis, and kinetic analysis, the purified cell-free enzyme behaves identically to the purified wild-type β-galactosidase.
