Fat Digestion and Absorption in Lipase and Bile Acid Deficiency

  • Chapter
Book cover Lipid Absorption: Biochemical and Clinical Aspects

Abstract

The digestion and absorption of dietary long-chain triglyceride is a sequence of very complex processes. The various steps which generate the products of lipolysis, i.e. fatty acid and monoglyceride, and which facilitate their transport to the microvillus membrane for subsequent diffusion into the cell, follow an orderly plan in health. These steps involve mechanical, chemical and physicochemical events, which are, at times, closely interrelated and interdependent.
